Anyone with a window can tell that Winter Storm Landon is here, and it’s dropping significant amounts of ice on the Greater Cincinnati area.
The National Weather Service outpost in Wilmington has declared a large portion of Northern Kentucky and South Central Ohio to be under an ice storm warning.
And while the ice is making driving conditions treacherous — and local officials are imploring people to stay home and off the roads — the weather could change Thursday evening and into Friday.
The NWS is predicting the current precipitation, a mix of sleet and freezing rain, will turn into snow Thursday afternoon and evening. They say the snow could be heavy at times, with a blustery wind.
The current winter storm warning, in effect until 7 a.m. Friday, says that there could be snowfall ranging from 2 to 4 inches. And the NWS map shows the area directly around Cincinnati could see more than 4 inches (4.4 inches to be exact) of total accumulation, with less snow falling to the South.
Friday morning there’s a 40% chance of precipitation with expected snowfall of less than half an inch.
The Hamilton County Sheriff has also just declared a Level 2 Snow Emergency for the county.
