CityBeat is looking for a creative and motivated Photo Intern to help visually capture Cincinnati’s arts, music, food and news scenes. You’ll have the opportunity to shoot events, concerts, portraits and city life, with your work published online and potentially in print. This is a great chance to build a professional portfolio, gain real-world experience and work alongside an award-winning editorial team that values strong storytelling.
Responsibilities:
- Photograph concerts, community events and city happenings for slideshows, social posts and stories
- Collaborate with editors and writers on assigned photo needs
- Edit and deliver high-quality images under tight deadlines
- Upload and organize photos using our content management system
- Assist with art direction or studio-style shoots, as needed
- Occasionally pitch your own visual story ideas or photo essays
You are:
- Passionate about photography and visual storytelling
- Familiar with DSLR/mirrorless camera equipment and basic editing software
- A quick communicator and comfortable working both independently and with a team
- Interested in covering everything from dive bar shows to civic protests to food festivals
- Enthusiastic about CityBeat’s mission and curious about local culture
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with photojournalism or documentary-style shooting
- Comfort shooting in low-light or fast-paced live settings
- Interest in video or multimedia storytelling
The internship is unpaid. You should be able to join us for 12-15 hours each week and have transportation (or the ability to access public transit), since we’ll be sending you out on assignment. You must live within our coverage area for that same reason.
To Apply:
Please send the following to Editor-in-Chief Ashley Moor-Mahoney at amoor@citybeat.com:
- A brief cover letter or email introducing yourself and your interest in the internship
- A résumé or summary of relevant experience
- A link to your portfolio or 5–10 sample photos (Dropbox/Google Drive links are fine)
Deadline to apply: May 23
