Everybody loves a good mystery, almost as much as they love Raymond, and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra is no exception. Perhaps that’s why CCO Music Director Mischa Santora has chosen to perform the “Concerto for Two Horns,” an engaging piece that has long been identified as a Franz Joseph Haydn composition but may in fact be the work of Antonio Rosetti; does anyone have the number of CSI: Vienna? Regardless of origin, Maestro Santora, the CCO and the Cincinnati Horn Duo – Professors Steven Gross and Randy Gardner – will present the work for horny music lovers everywhere (admit it, you were thinking the same thing). Also on the evening’s program will be a performance of Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella Suite,” personally adapted by Maestro Santora and featuring connecting narration supplied by WCPO sports director Dennis Janson, who is as big a fan of Commedia Dell’Arte theater as he is of the Bengals and Reds. The program begins with “Variaciones Concertantes, Op. 23” by Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera, whose work is so rife with sexual themes that his opera Bomarzo was banned for a five year period in Buenos Aires. Now that’s what I call a warm-up performance. The concert will be presented 2 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
