It’s not often you get to see a comic who holds a world record. The Midnight Swinger, Dave Scott, recently broke the record for longest stand-up set: 40 hours and eight minutes. “I was celebrating my 20th year in the business,” he says, “and my manager and I were trying to figure out what we could do to celebrate.” On a podcast, a friend mentioned that the longest stand-up set was 40 hours. “Off the cuff, I said, ‘I could do that.’ ”
He thought no one would notice, but his manager heard and called him a few days later and said three clubs were interested in hosting the record-breaking set. “I contacted Guinness and they gave me a claim number and approved my attempt.”
Mission accomplished, he’s back in shape now and ready to deliver his usual set. “It’s a great Vegas-style show, with comedy, music, signing, dancing and costume changes,” he says. “No dirty jokes, no drugs and no politics. The idea is to just have a feel-good night out.”
