Today is May 5, also known as the Super Bowl for political wonks. CityBeat has spent months preparing readers for coverage via our Election HQ portal on our website.
The polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m., as with all polling locations in Ohio, according to the Secretary of State’s website. Under Ohio law, a voter has the right to cast a ballot if they are in line at the polling place when polls close. If voters are waiting in line at 7:30 p.m., the polls must remain open until everyone in line has voted. No new individuals, however, may join the line once the polls have closed.
If a poll worker attempts to turn away a voter who was in line before 7:30 p.m., the voter can call or text 866-OUR-VOTE so a trained volunteer can help report and resolve the issue.
Voters should also note that Ohio law requires a valid, unexpired photo ID that includes the voter’s name and photograph — such as an Ohio driver’s license or state ID card. Voters must also cast their ballot in the correct precinct.
