Nate May premieres what the Cincinnati Main Library is describing as a “piece for Fender Rhodes (piano) and conference call” during their Experimental Music at the Library event. It will feature the live participation of people affected by the Elk River chemical spill in West Virginia in January 2014, who will be in their homes doing a type of walking meditation as May performs. Meanwhile, the library audience will use cellphones to dial into a conference call with those residents. May’s piano will be heard by those residents, too, via conference call. In a second piece, Sam Ferris-Morris will use food coloring on an overhead projector connected to a computer to translate light and color into audible sine waves, while accompanied by several other musicians.
