Peterloon Estate is a 1930s Georgian-style mansion located in the woodsy bowels of Indian Hill. It has 36 rooms — which are preserved with period-authentic furnishings and art — a lake, walled gardens, terraces and expansive, beautiful lawns. When I was in high school I was lucky enough to be friends with the caretaker’s son and some of my favorite memories involve wandering around the grounds at night and getting really freaked out looking in the doll room. (This was during a period in my life when I was smoking a fair amount of pot.) For the first time ever, the Cincinnati Preservation Association is opening up the house for public tours. It costs $25 for CPA members and $30 for non-members, which seems kind of steep, but it’s really worth it. It’s an awe-inspiring architectural gem and there aren’t many places in Cincinnati where you can sashay around acting like Elizabeth Bennet (not that I did that).
