Jake’s River Landing, a popular stop for Green Acres Kayak Rental goers, has been forced to close early due to flooding.
In a Facebook post announcement, the business said that at Jake’s, structures were moved, and equipment was destroyed (losing $100,000 in equipment alone).
“Kayaking at Jake’s is finished for the season, and our remaining regular live music schedule has been canceled,” the business said on Facebook. “Our friends at Green Acres have had to shut down too. This wasn’t a bad weekend for one business. The flooding has changed the rest of the season for businesses and families all along the Whitewater.”
Green Acres Kayak Rentals said as of Aug. 18 that the Whitewater River is still running too high. Brookville Lake has had to hold back water, resulting in the lake being nearly 13 inches above the normal water level. Once the Whitewater comes down a bit, Brookville will need to start releasing water. This process will likely take a couple of weeks to achieve. The business said on its Facebook and website that it is hopeful to know more about a reopening date in a couple of weeks.
Jake’s River Landing said the Pickin’ & Jammin’ music event is still happening this weekend despite the business having no electricity. The event will be held together with generators, coolers, a lot of hard work and understanding from guests, the business said.
