The Donald Trump vs. Kamala Harris race is a high-stakes and polarizing moment for the nation. Both candidates offer deeply contrasting visions for America: Trump, running alongside his VP pick JD Vance, a Middletown native, is a staunch conservative figure who has reformed the Republican party in his own vision. He focuses on a platform emphasizing an “American first” economy, mass deportations of immigrants and a rollback of Biden-era policies. Vice President Harris seeks to bring continuity to the Biden administration’s policies, championing healthcare reform, climate action and social justice issues, alongside her running mate, Tim Walz, the current governor of Minnesota. Both teams are focusing on key swing states as polling shows both candidates in a dead heat for the White House.

CityBeat has followed Sen. Vance’s rise from Middletown “hillbilly” to the Republican VP nomination in a new limited-series podcast: Elegy: The Many Myths of JD Vance.”
