Construction of a new transit center in Walnut Hills will begin soon, according to Metro officials.

Cincinnati’s Metro, the city’s bus transit system, gave a presentation that discussed several talking points about the transit system’s success this year at Tuesday’s Climate, Infrastructure and Environment meeting at City Hall.

“One will be the construction of the new Walnut Hills Transit Center,” Andy Aiello, CEO and general manager at Metro, said at a city council meeting. “You can see we have worked through the environmental and design processes. We plan to procure construction soon.”

Construction will start toward the end of this year and is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2028, Aiello said. The transit center will be located on the corner of Gilbert Avenue and William Howard Taft Road, specifically 2624 Gilbert Ave.

The new transit center will be the fifth transit center of its kind in the city. Currently, Metro has transit centers in Norwood, downtown Cincinnati (Government Square), Glenway Crossing and the Riverfront.

“We have many more east-west connections, which we call a multi-nodal transportation,” Aiello said. “Which means you can hit one of those crosstowns, transfer and have a shorter trip to your destination.”
