The People Declare Peace
The Peace Committee of the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 to discuss plans for the Declaration of Peace, a nationwide series of protests and other events the week of Sept. 21. The Cincinnati Chapter of the National Organization for Women discusses Ohio politics at its meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at First Unitarian Church. Along with talking about candidates, the meeting will offer information on new voting rules, new voting machines in Hamilton County and ways to get involved with the board of elections to help with the Nov. 7 election.
A Franciscan View of Globalization
"A Franciscan Future in a Globalizing World" examines the role followers of St. Francis of Assisi should play in a world increasingly dominated by corporate interests. Speakers include the Rev. Richard Rohr, internationally acclaimed author and retreat master, and the Rev. John Quigley, director of Franciscans International. The two priests helped found the New Jerusalem charismatic community in Cincinnati in the 1970s. The program is at 7 p.m.

Remember Nuclear Bomb Victims
The United States is the only country ever to use nuclear weapons in warfare. The Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center presents a candlelight vigil and meditation walk for the victims of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The program is at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Theodore Berry International Friendship Park. For more information, call 513-579-8547.
The Best of S.O.S. Art
A retrospective of S.O.S. Art, an annual art show and event of sociopolitical expression for peace and justice since 2003, is on exhibit at the University Galleries, 628 Sycamore St. The show includes 2D and 3D artworks on peace and justice by 50 Greater Cincinnati artists. "S.O.S. Art Retrospective: Selections, 2003-2005" runs through Sept. 8. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m.-4p.m. Saturdays.
Glory in the Morning
The Miami Group Sierra Club hosts the annual Morning Glory Ride on Aug. 6 at Sawyer Point, downtown. As many as 2,000 riders are expected to participate in the ride, known as the largest bike ride in the Greater Cincinnati area. Columbia Parkway will be closed during the early morning hours to accommodate the event. All bike riders, from advanced cyclists to families to biking enthusiasts, are welcome to participate. The 26-mile athletic course begins at 5 a.m. and the 10-mile leisure course starts at 6 a.m. Both loops begin and end at Sawyer Point and can be done by anyone with a bicycle. The cost is $35 for adults and $20 for ages 14 and under. Riders receive Morning Glory Ride T-shirts and gourmet breakfast on the river from 6-9 a.m. Participants may register online at www.morninggloryride.org or at Sawyer Point the day of the ride.
