For a holiday show that will delight kids and adults while teaching a lesson that’s totally palatable at the same time, it’s nice to know that Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati (ETC) is back with another musical fairytale by Joe McDonough and David Kisor. ETC has done this one before (in 1998 and 2003), but Lynn Meyers and her cast work hard to revamp each production, always finding fresh ways to bring humor, joy and a meaningful message to the stage.
Says Meyers, “What’s so great about David and Joe’s fairytale creations is that the lessons are timeless and always appeal the children who get to explore Alice for the first time. Alice needs to learn a lesson and each of the show’s characters, as well as the audience, help her do that.”
The cast is populated with great local actors, including multiple-CEA nominees Deb G. Girdler (repeating her portrait of the spiteful Queen of Hearts), Michael Bath (as the nervous Rabbit) and Charlie Scott and Annie Fitzpatrick (as Tweedledum and Tweedledee). I guarantee that kids will love this one, and adults will be entertained. Through Jan. 4. $16-$38.
