Hand it to Ensemble Theatre for kicking off its 2014-2015 season with the regional premiere of a recent Broadway musical. Hands on a Hardbody is about 10 hard-luck Texans vying for a brand-new pick-up truck — by being the last contender to keep at least one hand on it. Based on a true story (the subject of a 1997 documentary), the show features tunes by Trey Anastasio from the Rock band Phish. It’s a moving tale with a lot of heart, portraying people struggling to find their version of the American Dream.

Through Sept. 21. $28-$44. Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, 1127 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine, 513-421-3555, ensemblecincinnati.org.
