If you’ve started thinking about the fun you’ll have in June when the 2011 Cincinnati Fringe rolls around, I have a suggestion to keep you going while it’s still winter. Head to the University of Cincinnati campus for the third consecutive year of Transmigration, a festival of student-created works. Offering six different 30-minute productions by teams from the CCM Drama program, this event gives you the chance to see four of them in an evening. Performances, produced by groups of 8-10 students with budgets of $75 happen around the CCM complex.
According to drama chair Richard Hess, “Transmigration is about the lessons learned making original theatre with a small ensemble. The festival was created in response to the original theatre companies and original work created by students throughout our 27-year history. Our alums and current students have continued to create original pieces.” At least three companies now working in other cities began with productions of this kind at UC — Satori Theatre Group (Seattle), The Lost Theatre Company (New York) and Stokastik Theatre Ensemble (Los Angeles).
