Supermarket chain Publix is continuing its expansion in Northern Kentucky.

On Thursday, the supermarket announced another Publix Super Market and an adjacent Publix Liquors will be opening in Hebron. That store will be located at the corner of Williams Road and Worldwide Boulevard in The Shoppes of Hebron Pointe.

According to a press release, the store will be 50,325 square feet and will employ about 140 people. There is currently no opening timeframe for the Hebron store.

Publix has also announced four other Northern Kentucky locations over the last year:

  • Triple Crown Shopping Center at Triple Crown Boulevard and Richwood Road in Richwood
  • Cold Spring at AA Highway and Alexandria Pike
  • Independence at Harris Pike and Madison Pike
  • Florence at US-42 and Farmview Drive

Publix is best known for its fresh produce, buy-one-get-one deals and its popular “Pub Sub” sandwiches. It’s also the largest employee-owned company in the United States, according to its website.

The announcement comes just a day after the proposed merger between local supermarket Kroger and chain Albertsons ended. On Wednesday, Albertsons called off the nearly $25-billion deal and sued Kroger for breach of contract, alleging Kroger wasn’t doing enough to advance the merger, which was blocked by a federal judge earlier this week. Albertsons is seeking a $600 million termination fee, plus billions of dollars in legal fees and lost shareholder value. Kroger argues Albertsons’ claims are baseless and it’s not entitled to this “break-up” fee.
