With 98.75% of precincts reporting, incumbent Democratic State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn has won-reelection to the Ohio statehouse, representing District 24. Isaacsohn defeated his Republican challenger John Sess 72.32% to 27.68%.

More than 403,650 votes were cast in this race, among 604,199 voters. Sess’s strongest results were in southeast Cincinnati, with the highest votes for him being 571 to Isaacsohn’s 306. Comparatively, Isaacsohn performed best in the precincts from Mt. Auburn to downtown Cincinnati, consistently pulling vote shares in the 500-800 levels, while Sess remained in the low hundreds.

Isaacsohn is the House Minority whip. He was elected to the House in 2022. Assuming office in January 2023, Isaacsohn has attempted to find common ground with Republican colleagues to address issues like property taxes, affordable housing and education. Sess’ campaign website says the candidate intended to be “diligent in ensuring our tax dollars are spent wisely,” and that he’d be a “champion of the Convention of States movement in the Ohio legislature.”

CityBeat reached out to both candidates for a pre-election interview, but only Isaacsohn responded by press time. Read CityBeat’s interview with Isaacsohn here.
