Building up your anticipation can be almost as fun as whatever you're looking forward to doing. But boy does it stink when rotten timing and bad luck snatch your dream right out of your hands.

Luckily, people like Joey Votto know how to deal with such things.

During a game this weekend in San Diego, the Cincinnati Reds' first baseman made sure that a young Reds fan didn't leave Petco Park disappointed after Votto was ejected from the game in the first inning.

Umpires threw Votto out after he'd struck out on a checked swing and argued with the home-plate and third-base umps, MLB.com reports.

Indeed, Reds officials got all up in their feels, MLB reports. They saw Courtney's tweet and offered some swag to Abigail.

But then little Abigail had a chance to meet her hero:

Plus Votto signed a ball for his new young friend.

His words?

"I am sorry I didn't play the entire game."
