The upscale urban chic of Nancy Meyers (It’s Complicated) will be on full-display in The Intern, her latest comedy, but this time, the trick is that she’s not focusing on romantic entanglements. Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro), a 70-year-old widower, can’t quite face retirement alone, so he jumps at the chance to get back into the workforce as a senior intern for a fashion site with a fresh young founder (Anne Hathaway) struggling with maintaining her position. There’s something intriguing in the notion of exploring alternative male-female dynamics, and the De Niro/Hathaway combination has real (and obvious) crossover potential.
