Cincinnati Electro/Indie Rock & Roll duo Pop Empire just performed a show in honor of the release of its debut full-length, The Devil’s Party, which came out on PE member Cameron Cochran’s just-launched all-digital, all-free imprint, The Recording Label. But the duo still found time to do a clever remix of “50’s,” a track off of fellow Cincinnati Art Pop group Pomegranates’ critically acclaimed album, One of Us.—-

Pop Empire injects “50’s” with a prominent sample of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gypsy,” which fits so well laid over the original track it would make Girl Talk proud. To download the remix, click here. If you’d like to compare and contrast, here is a link to the Poms’ original version.

In other Pomegranate remix news, the band launched a contest in January asking fans to rewire another One of Us cut, “Create Yr Own Reality,” providing a download of the “stems” (individual tracks) for them to play with. Someone called “HippyChef” won, giving the song a creeping Electronica retooling. Take a listen here. (The winner will receive a special piece of artwork by band member Isaac Karns.)

One of Us (put out last year by Afternoon Records, home to artists like John Vanderslice and Poison Control Center) is turning out to be Pomegranates’ most heralded album to date, drawing a lot of attention to the young quartet. A steady touring schedule has also helped raise the group’s profile. The Poms will have a chance to draw in even more new fans next month when they embark on a road trek supporting popular Indie ensemble Ra Ra Riot.

Local fans can get their dose of live Pomegranates tomorrow (Thursday) when the band performs at The Mad Hatter in Covington, rounding out a really strong bill that includes buzz band Tokyo Police Club (check out CityBeat‘s recent interview with the Canadian band here) and local Indie/Dance/Pop masters Walk the Moon.
