The Contemporary Arts Center has been hosting One Night: One Craft, a wildly popular crafts night on Monday nights all summer long. Each week, local artisans do demonstrations of crafts projects and those in attendance can try their hands at it. Some weeks, the space has been at capacity. Next Monday the CAC welcomes Joel Armor and Joe Civitello, who will be talking about traditional and non-traditional woodworking techniques. Both men work at the CAC, helping to create the gallery furniture for exhibitions, but they are also artists in their own right. They will be demonstrating image transfer techniques onto wood scraps and other ways to recycle the banal into elevated arts and crafts. The class is 6-8 p.m., and there is a $5 materials fee. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their own small photocopied images to use in the process. It’s free to visit the exhibitions at the CAC on Monday nights from 5-9 p.m., so get there early or stay late to visit the current rotation of shows.
