While the entertainment world scrambled for sensitivity following the Sept. 11 attacks, anyone who was familiar with the Indie Electro Pop duo I Am the World Trade Center had to wonder what they might do about their always intriguing, yet suddenly alarming moniker. Though the duo (singer Amy Dykes and tech-head Dan Geller) briefly changed their name to I Am the World, they ultimately decided to carry on with the full name as the general hyper-sensitivity died down. The band’s latest album, The Tight Connection, was just released on Kindercore Records, the emerging indie co-founded by Geller and home to bands like Dressy Bessy, Of Montreal and The Sunshine Fix. The album retains the fun/cool vibe of their first album, with Dykes’ strong Deborah Harry-inspired vocals (they even do an effective cover of Blondie’s “Call Me”) wrapping sensually around Geller’s fluid, dance-ready beats and old-school Electro blips and bleeps.
