Italy’s official submission for the 2012 Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film category, Terraferma from writer-director Emanuele Crialese dramatizes the tale of a Sicilian family confronting the arrival of a group of immigrants on their island. The film earned several key nominations and prizes (Best Film, a Special Jury Prize and the Pasinetti Award for Best Film at the 2011 Venice Film Festival). Opens Sept. 13 at Mariemont Theatre.
