This Saturday, one of Cincinnati’s newest film festivals returns for a second year.

The Avondale Film Festival was developed to bring together filmmakers, artists, young people, families and community supporters for a celebration of film and creativity. It’ll take place at the Holloman Center for Social Justice at 3539 Reading Road from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Presented by Capital Heights Consulting LLC, the festival intends to introduce young people to the world of filmmaking, encourage local artistic expression, support emerging talent and create opportunities for Greater Cincinnati residents to experience the power of cinema and storytelling.

“Film has the ability to inspire, educate, and bring people together. Our vision is to create opportunities for young people and neighborhoods to participate in an industry they may never have imagined being part of,” said Russell Hairston, the founder of Capital Heights and the festival itself. “The Avondale Film Festival is about celebrating talent, opening doors and demonstrating what can happen when communities are given opportunities to grow.”

The Avondale Film Festival is part of a broader effort to make film, arts and entertainment accessible to residents throughout Avondale and other Greater Cincinnati neighborhoods. Hairston is also the executive director of the Avondale Development Corporation.
