A massive project is underway in Eden Park that will help the Cincinnati Art Museum better connect and engage with the community.
The museum is in the process of constructing a grand staircase that artfully spans from the intersection of Gilbert Avenue and Eden Park Drive up to the museum’s entrance.
The new addition is called Art Climb and was created with the mission to “connect the museum to its neighbors and eventually provide a space to incorporate outdoor artworks.”
David Linnenberg, CAO of the Cincinnati Art Museum, recently took viewers on a Facebook video tour to see the progress of the Art Climb, winding through the whimsical tree-covered staircase and noting the elements that will be incorporated into the anticipated structure.
Linnenberg notes that there are light poles that travel all the way up the staircase that can change colors — for instance, he says, they can change them all red when the Cincinnati Reds win the World Series. There will also be spaces for picnic tables and spaces for sculptures and works of art, as well as places for musicians to play. All walls will be able to light up and there is also the museum’s own special version of the riverfront’s Serpentine Wall along the walk.
Linnenberg mentions in the video that the stairs do not go straight up, they wind through the woods as they worked around existing trees throughout the park.
