An ArtWorks mural honoring 50 years of Pride in Cincinnati will be unveiled along one of the busiest corridors downtown later this month. In June, the Queen City saw its 50th Pride Parade, and at the end of August, it will gain a celebratory work of art at Queen City Radio on the corner of 12th Street and Central Parkway.

The “Love Wins” mural spans the brick facade atop Queen City Radio’s bar and beer garden and represents the LGBTQ+ community through vibrant scenes of protests, triumphs and celebrations, a press release says. Twelve ArtWorks’ apprentices have been working on the painting for months under the guidance of teaching artists Daniel Baker and Orion Inez.

Matthew Dayler, assistant professor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, designed the monument to inclusion. Dayler’s work can be found across the U.S. and in the Netherlands and Australia. He is also the visionary of Chroma Projects, which conceptualizes mural production and experimental installations.

According to an ArtWorks press release, the mural was made possible with the support of Procter & Gamble and the City of Cincinnati’s Career Pathways Initiative. ArtWorks apprentices and teachers trained almost 20 P&G associates, who participated in painting the mural. In July, P&G dedicated two “painting days” of work to the “Love Wins” piece. Members of the Pride community also contributed to the painting.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to work with Cincinnati Pride and ArtWorks to contribute to such a visible display recognizing the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to Cincinnati,” Brent Miller, senior director of Global LGBTQ+ Equality at P&G, said in a press release. “P&G has a long history supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Cincinnati and we appreciate all of those working to create more equal and inclusive communities.”

Currently, the painting work is complete. Soon the mural will get a protective sealant and in late August, the scaffolding will be removed. A mural dedication and celebration is scheduled for Aug. 27 from 3-6 p.m. at Queen City Radio. Festivities will include specialty cocktails, a DJ, performances, food and a “Love Wins” mural design poster for purchase.
