A Covington bar and restaurant is closing its doors for good.

The Von Den Benken family, who owns The Hum (formerly Frosthaus and Eishaus), announced on social media this week that their last day in business will be Friday, Nov. 14. The team says times are tough for the industry and they want to close The Hum while they can still celebrate the experience.

“It’s time for one last Prost,” the Von Den Benkens shared in a Facebook post. “From our days as Eishaus and Frosthaus to our time as The Hum, it’s been such an incredible ride. We’ve loved serving this community – from the vegan coffee cake, burritos and spaghetti eis out of the eishaus window, to the the music trivia and karaoke nights at frosthaus, to the cocktails and pockets at The Hum and of course all the frozen drinks, we are so grateful for the countless memories.”

The Von Den Benkens first opened their business as Eishaus, an ice cream shop that specialized in “spaghetti eis,” or ice cream shaped like spaghetti noodles, in September 2020, followed by sister bar and restaurant Frosthaus, best known for its quick bites and boozy slushies, in 2021. The businesses rebranded to “The Hum” this past spring — an homage to their building’s history as home to the Union, Light, Heat, & Power Co. — with the new concept featuring a refreshed vintage design, a menu of classic comfort foods with a twist and a reimagined bar program.

Before it closes, The Hum will host a final Bingo night on Thursday, Nov. 13, as well as karaoke nights on Friday, Nov. 7; Saturday, Nov. 8; and Friday, Nov. 14.

“We hope you’ll stop by over the next week and a half for one last frozen drink, a few more good times, one last song on the mic, and a final Prost with friends. Thank you for being part of our story, can’t wait to see what’s next,” the Von Den Benkens wrote.
