Beloved Jamaican restaurant Island Frydays is back in business.
The eatery’s first location, opened in 2009, was a treasured community staple on Short Vine before closing at the very end of 2024; owner Leo Morgan acknowledged at the time that the business was struggling during COVID and temporarily transitioned to a food truck model. Now, Morgan is reopening the restaurant in College Hill, and their business is bigger and better than ever.
In a 5,200 sq. ft. location, Island Frydays will serve their Jamaican staples that Cincinnatians have grown to know and love, alongside a full-scale catering business and a brand-new nightlife lounge titled the “Paradise Room” that will feature indoor and outdoor seating.
In the Paradise Room, customers can purchase classic Caribbean cocktails and frozen drinks or try out their self-pour system, which gives guests the freedom to explore a curated selection of beverages at their own pace. The Paradise Room will sport live music and events throughout the week, including special weekly brunches on Sundays.
“This is the evolution Cincinnati has been waiting for,” Morgan said. “We’ve spent years pouring our heart into the flavors of the Caribbean; now, we’ve built a home where the atmosphere matches the food. The Paradise Room is about more than just a meal. It’s about a feeling. It’s a place to escape, relax, and celebrate.”
Morgan currently operates his food truck at 5835 Hamilton Ave. in College Hill. A grand opening date for the new Island Frydays, located at 5920 Hamilton Ave., is expected in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on their website for more information.
