Cincinnati Ballet and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra are joining forces with local folk band Over the Rhine for a weekend of spectacular performances.
All three groups will come together for “LIVE!” on Nov. 6 and 7, which will feature three world-premiere ballet works set to live music performed by Over the Rhine and the CSO at Music Hall.
Each of the pieces will feature songs from Over the Rhine’s vast discography and have been created by internationally recognized choreographers Young Soon Hue, David Morse and Kenneth Tindall.
“Innovation begins with curiosity about what we can create together,” says Artistic Director Cervilio Miguel Amador. “LIVE! celebrates Cincinnati’s creative spirit by bringing ballet, the music of Over the Rhine, and the sound of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra onto one stage. I hope audiences feel both a connection to this music and the excitement of experiencing it in a new way.”
Married couple Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist founded their band Over the Rhine in 1989, named after one of the city’s most famous neighborhoods, and have since released fifteen studio albums. This is the third collaboration between the Cincinnati Ballet and Over the Rhine, following one in 2011 and another in 2014 that closed out Cincinnati Ballet’s 50th anniversary season.
Cincinnati Ballet’s Music Director, Alyssa Wang, will be conducting the Symphony during each performance.
“It’s exciting to bring together the world of orchestra, Over the Rhine, and ballet in such a direct way,” Alyssa Wang sad. “Usually, when the Cincinnati Symphony performs with the ballet, the orchestra is in the pit, so getting to share the stage with the band and the dancers makes this performance feel especially collaborative and alive!”
Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. each night, with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. For more information, visit the Cincinnati Ballet’s website.
