While it may not be the first thing on your mind in these uncertain times, pets are still looking for their forever homes. According to a post by Cincinnati adoption agency Louie’s Legacy, Its not only safe to keep pets in the home, but also beneficial, as they can serve as a source of comfort during a crisis. The companionship of pets has been shown to reduce stress and lower anxiety, helping people to feel calmer and more secure when the news from the outside world is distressing.
While Louies Legacy has canceled special adoption events coming up, they’re still conducting pet adoptions and seeking foster homes. From their website: “We are fully operational remotely, and our commitment to animal welfare remains the same. Adoptions will be conducted under modified circumstances during this time, so please continue to apply to foster and adopt pets, as the need for animal rescue is always present.”
Louie’s Legacy, as well as plenty of other pet rescues, have many adoptable furbabies of all ages and breeds that are in need of families to love.
All of the pets on this particular slideshow are from Louie’s Legacy. If you’re interested in adopting, reach out to the rescue. Please note that some dogs may have pending adoptions.
Whether or not you’re in a place to adopt, we hope these adorable faces bring you some joy.

“Meet sweet baby Rey! She has the best puppy dog eyes! Rey is a 3 yr old lab mix, weighing 50 lbs. This perfect medium sized dog is both housebroken and crate trained. She loves to go on walks and would probably even enjoy a good run! She is working on her leash training but she has already gotten so much better in such a short time. Rey lives in a foster home with 2 other medium sized dogs and 2 cats. She does great with them all! They love running around in the backyard together. (Not the cats ha). Age: 10 months old / Breed: Cattle Dog / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Mailbox is a handsome 10 month old, 40 pound, Cattle Dog/Boxer mix. He is an amazing boy looking for a loving family who will take him on all sorts of outdoor adventures such as hiking, swimming and long walks. On the flip side he also loves to cuddle and be part of the pack. He is house trained (stands at the door and whines) and crate trained (does not chew on blankets or crate beds). His happy tail lets you know how he is feeling. He is very intelligent and wants to please his person: he was taught how to sit in about 2 minutes. He is a gentleman when given treats and toys. He enjoys sticking his head out of the car window and watching the world go by.”

“Meet Pinky! This beautiful girl is a 1.5 year old Great Pyrenees Mix who weighs about 65lbs. Pinky loves to spend her time outside or playing with her foster siblings. Pinky is a fearful dog who isn’t comfortable with men or loud noises. She needs a home that will help continue to work on her confidence and help her get over her fears. She would do best with another confident dog that she can play with and learn from. When comfortable, she’ll be your best friend!”

I am nothing but a big baby! All I want to do is cuddle up next to you, have you pet me, or give you all kinds of kisses. Age: 1 year old/ Breed: Chihuahua / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Violet is 1 year old and only 7 lbs. She loves to be close to her people. She would do best in a home with no or older kids because she is so small, fast movement startle her. “Peppa is a 5 year old Chihuahua/Pug mix who is on a diet to drop some weight, weighing 26lbs. Peppa likes to play with toys and her people. She likes other dogs and is friendly with all people. Peppa needs a owner who will continue to work on a healthy diet and lifestyle to help her live a long, healthy life.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyJasmine
Age: Adult / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Jasmine was a wonderful mother to her 6 kittens, all of whom have now been adopted and its time for this momma cat to find her forever home. Shes a bit of an independent lady. She likes to be near her humans, but she’s not overly affectionate. She is quite regal in her demeanor and sees herself as the queen of the household. She tolerates other cats and dogs well. Shes fully litter box trained and has a wonderful appetite. She occasionally will jump on the bed and allow her humans to pet her a few times and shes gotten a bit more loving with time and patience. She has not been around small children and she would do better with older family members. She loves to play when shes in the mood and her favorite toys are laser lights and anything on a string. Shes quite skilled at sleeping and climbing her cat tower. Jasmine has what we lovingly refer to as (resting grumpy cat face).”
Photo via Louie's LegacyDorothy
Age: 6 year old / Breed: Golden Retriever / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Dorothy is a 6 year old golden retriever mix. She is good in her crate and goes right in when asked. She is always happy and loving to her foster mom. She took awhile to warm up to her doggie foster brother and tolerates him now, but would probably prefer to be the only animal of the house. Shes learning to walk in a leash and loves her food and treats! She sleeps in on the weekends and never barks to be let out of her crate, but does bark sometimes at people passing by or other dogs out on walks. She is quite content in the fenced in back yard and has never tried to escape. Dorothy loves being brushed and pet by her foster mom, and is slowly learning how a good girl like her should live – not tied up on a porch 24/7 like she was before being rescued. She would love to find her forever home!”
Photo via Louie's LegacyHazel
Age: 1 year old / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Hazel is as beautiful as her name. She is a gray tabby, with the cutest gray nose ever. She is 1 year old and fostered with 1 cat and 2 very large dogs. She is litter box trained and loves a can of wet food daily as a treat before bed. She nibbles on dry food throughout her day as she gets the munchies. She is UTD on all vaccinations and preventatives and would make the perfect companion to you, your family or another cat. Hazel is unassuming and loves laying in her cat tree. She also enjoys lounging in her cheetah print hammock. If you are looking for the puuuuurfect friend then Hazel may be your girl.”

Age: 1 year old / Breed: Pitbull Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Meet Fenway! He is a one year old pitbull mix. He weighs about 56 pounds. He is the friendliest guy! He loves playing with his foster brother, sleeping in his foster mom’s lap, and laying in the sun. Fenway can sit, lay, and give paw. He is crate trained and house broken. Fenway is very gentle, but he is strong. He is still working on leash training. He loves car rides, treats, and belly rubs.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyDimino
Age: 11 weeks old / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Dimino is a part of a litter of 11 week old kittens who are full of energy and joy! They love to play with each other and get pets from their humans! They are fostered with small dogs who they are curious about, but generally leave alone. They are litter box trained. This crew can’t wait to meet their forever family!!”
Photo via Louie's LegacyPetey
Age: 4.5 years old/ Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Meet Petey! This “Little Rascal” is a super sweet 4.5 year old petite pit mix, weighing only 48 pounds. Petey is housebroken and crate trained, as well as pretty low energy. He loves to just snuggle up on the couch, hang out with his person, and be a great Netflix buddy! That being said, Petey requires a home where he would be the only pet and he would love a fenced yard ready for him to explore. He will also need an adult only home due to his timid nature. He is looking for a forever family that will help him learn that the world isn’t so scary and he can enjoy new sights and sounds. He is learning excellent leash manners and would enjoy daily walks. This guy is also quickly learning commands of “sit”, “stay”, “come”, “heel” and “down”. As he is still gaining his confidence, Petey is a bit timid meeting strangers, but once he gets to know you, he wants to be your best buddy! He does tend to be more comfortable with women versus men, however he is friendly with everyone.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyPaige
Age: 8 months old / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“These 8 month old cuties are cuddly, playful and so much fun! They love to play with each other and with their people. They can be a bit shy when meeting new friends, but they warm up quickly and are happy for new friends almost immediately! They would love a warm bed to sleep in and new friends to play with! Does that sound like your house?”
Photo via Louie's LegacyLovey
Age: 15 months old / Breed: German Shepherd / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Lovey is a 15 month old Shepard mix who weighs about 35 pounds and just adores people and always wants to be around them. She has very high energy and just wants to go outside and run and play with her people or other dogs. She would be amazing with someone who has a fenced in yard or who is very active outside. She is crate trained and housebroken. She is doing very well with using a bell to let you know when she needs to go out. She knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and paw. She is fostered with another dog and they get along great and are always playing. She is protective over her own space and food bowl towards other dogs but loves sharing her toys.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyMarty McFly
Age: 1.5 years old / Breed: Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Are you looking for an outgoing pup who has a knack for making friends every where he goes? Then Marty McFly just might be the guy for you! This 60-pound, 1.5-year-old Boxer/Lab mix has only one character flaw: he just might be too friendly for his own good. Don’t expect to go anywhere without Marty stopping to introduce himself to everyone he sees. And once they start petting, you might as well kiss your afternoon goodbye because this guy’s about to really turn on the charm. He gives out the best hugs, has a tail that never stops wagging and flashes his adorable smile every chance he gets. Marty’s one regret in life? He still hasn’t managed to find Doc Brown so that he can go back in time and figure out why such a cheerful, loving pup is still homeless.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyDuchess
Age: 8 years old / Breed: German Shepherd / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Meet Duchess! Duchess is an 8 year old German Shepherd. Duchess was surrendered to a shelter because she “never went into heat for breeding.” Come to find out, it was because Duchess had already been spayed. When coming to rescue, poor Duchess was in so much pain she was barely able to walk. It was determined by the rescue veterinarian that she has severe hip dysplasia in both hips. Due to her age, the vet decided that Duchess would not be a good candidate for hip replacement surgery as her age may keep her from surviving the surgery and/or recovery. Instead, we opted to help Duchess by conducting several rounds of laser therapy to help strengthen her legs and eliminate her pain. The therapies have worked incredibly well and although her legs are still a little wobbly, she is feeling and looking great!”
Photo via Louie's LegacyLarkin
Age: Adult / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Larkin is a lively grey and white 1 year old kitten. She is spayed and UTD on vaccines and preventatives. She and her littermates have had a bit of a rough start but are healthy and ready for adoption. They will require a specific diet and need to be adopted in pairs. Due to their previous medical concerns they will need to be the only animals in the home. Larkin and her siblings love to play with laser pointers, crinkly toys, and feather toys.”
Photo via Louie's LegacyCheeky
Age: 1 year old / Breed: Beagle / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louies Legacy
“Meet Cheeky!! She’s an 18 lb, one year old little lady who’ll steal your heart. This girl has spunk for days once she warms up and settles in. She zooms around the yard (very speedy) and does good on a leash. She’s extremely shy and it will probably take her awhile to feel comfortable in a new space. She’ll need lots of praise and reassurance until she can trust her person. She would do best with a female adopter. She’s not fond of children. Cheeky had a rough start in life, overcoming a bacterial lung infection while raising 3 pups. She was Lyme positive and has completed her medication, no longer showing no symptoms. Please consider showering this sweet puppers with love.”
