Local arts nonprofit organization ArtsWave is impacting the city’s arts scene in a big way.
The organization recently pledged to donate $8,971,278 to various arts organizations across the city of Cincinnati, including big names like The Children’s Theatre, Cincy Shakes and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. In total, 46 different organizations will receive a grant from ArtsWave as part of a new three-year funding cycle for FY2027-2029.
The grants, titled “Sustaining Impact” grants, will provide multi-year operating funding that helps arts and cultural organizations maintain financial stability, leading to more consistent community impact.

“For 100 years, our region has come together to support its arts,” said ArtsWave President & CEO Alecia Kintner in a statement. “What we raise through our campaign each year goes right back into the community. These 46 organizations, and the people they reach, are what that investment looks like in practice. Every gift becomes support that keeps our region vibrant and connected.”
A total of 58 volunteer community members, drawn from business, civic and arts leadership across the region, reviewed and scored applications. A formula that relates the score to percentages of operating budget, adjusted for available dollars, determines how much funding each organization receives, with proof of community impact weighted the highest. Judging criteria included a primary mission dedicated to arts and cultural programming, nonprofit status of at least five or ten years depending on budget size, a history of ArtsWave funding and sound financial health, and various other requirements.
“Our community volunteer review process is central to how ArtsWave operates,” said Debbie Hayes, who serves as ArtsWave Board Chair and President & CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network, in a statement. “That kind of community ownership and investment is what has carried us thus far and what will carry us successfully into our second century of impact.”
