Hamilton County animal shelter Cincinnati Animal CARE (CAC) is hosting a special weekend adoption event to help find the littlest pups a forever home.

CAC says July is its highest stray intake month due to fireworks, storms and other summertime commotion. In an effort to free up space in its foster homes and shelter ahead of the uptick, CAC will host Pup-Palooza Friday-Sunday, June 13-15 at the Colerain Avenue location, with a special push to get the small dogs (under 35 pounds) and puppies adopted.

“We hear it all the time: ‘Where are all the little ones?!’ This weekend, the answer is: right here at the shelter,” CAC said in a press release.

Small dogs and puppies are typically housed in foster homes due to space limitations at the shelter and vaccination needs, but this weekend they’ll be on-site, available alongside the bigger dogs.

“It’s a rare opportunity to meet adoptable animals of all sizes in one place as we work to create room for the many pets we expect to take in during the busy summer months,” said CAC.

Small dogs’ adoption fee will be $75, while puppies (8 weeks to 6 months) will be available for $200. Adult dogs (6 months or older) over 35 pounds will also be available for just $20. Standard adoption procedures apply, and all dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Dog owners who aren’t able to adopt or foster can also do their part to help CAC keep the shelter accessible to strays during the summer months. CAC says to make sure you have renewed your dog’s annual Hamilton County license, microchip your pets and ensure your contact information is up to date and always keep a secure collar and visible ID tag on your dogs.
