Cincinnati Animal CARE — Hamilton County’s shelter and humane society — has taken in 1,249 animals since Oct. 1.
That’s a whole lot of animals and they are currently at -30 kennels, which means “there are 30 more dogs in the facility than there are places to put them,” says Cincinnati Animal Care in a release.
“We’re committed to housing only one dog per kennel, but this is by far the worst it’s ever been,” says Ray Anderson, the shelter’s media and community relations manager. “We need our community to adopt in order to maintain that pledge.”
So on Black Friday (Nov. 26), they are offering $9.99 adoptions for all animals over 6 months old. Doors open at 1 p.m. and stay open until 10 p.m.
“When we say ‘adopt, don’t shop,’ we mean it literally this year,” says Anderson in the release. “You could stand in line with a bunch of people hoping to get that cheap TV or you could adopt your new best friend!”
The shelter, located at 3949 Colerain Ave., Northside, is closed on Thanksgiving. View adoptable animals at cincinnatianimalcare.org.
And if you can’t adopt, Cincinnati Animal CARE says they are in desperate need of fosters.
“We’re out of kennels, we’re out of emergency kennels, we’re out of offices, staff members are taking dogs home with them. But too many animals are coming in and not enough are going out,” says the shelter on a Facebook post.
They are asking people to consider fostering pets, even just over the holiday weekend, to get them out of the crowded situation. They provide the supplies, support and all medical care.
