Another German tradition is making it’s way to the Queen City, offering folks a way to enjoy beautiful views, a little exercise, safe socialization and some well-deserved brews.

The Cincinnati Riverfront Volksmarch Group (CRVG) is inspired by the European non-competitive fitness walk where participants amble pre-determined paths or trails in distances of 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers or 20 kilometers (sometimes longer).

“Completion of the Volksmarch is done at the participant’s leisure, but within specified hours of the event,” a press release from Moerlein Lager House reads.

“The initial Riverfront Volksmarch course will be 5K along Cincinnati’s spectacular riverfront. Volksmarchers, like runners, are a hearty bunch, and the monthly walk will be scheduled during all four seasons.”

The walk will end at Moerlein Lager House’s temperate-controlled beer garden.

The “lighthearted” group welcomes all ages that share a passion for walking, socializing and beer drinking (for the 21 and up participants).

“Regardless of weather conditions, the group will meet monthly to enjoy life and the seasons of the riverfront,” the press release reads.

Each march will take place the first Saturday of the month, and will have a charity or theme involved. The forthcoming march, which takes place on Nov. 7, will be themed as “A Tribute to the First Annual WKRP Turkey Drop.”

“All participants will be entered into a chance to win a toy turkey tossed to them from the deck of the Moerlein Lager House to commemorate the annual turkey drop. We’ll assure you our toy turkey can’t fly,” the press release reads.

According to the release, COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place with social distancing at the forefront. The march’s kick off will be broken up into groups of no more than 10, and tables will be spaced out at the post-march event at Moerlein Lager House.

Registration spans from 10 a.m. to noon, with the walk kicking off as soon as participants are registered. The march portion will end at 1 p.m.

Participation costs $3; children under 12 are free. For more info, visit the Facebook group page. The event kicks off and ends at Moerlein Lager House, and parking is available beneath the eatery.
