An arts showcase co-sponsored by the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition and Originary Arts Initiative is coming to the Carnegie Heritage Center of Columbia Tusculum on Sept. 1 to celebrate Greater Cincinnati’s diverse Appalachian culture.
Appalachian Flow: A Creative Community Showcase will feature displays of all kinds of art that represent Appalachian culture and the Ohio River watershed, including literary readings, traditional music, visual arts and food.
“Appalachian Flow celebrates Greater Cincinnati’s unique Urban Appalachian heritage and the beautiful Ohio River Watershed holding many diverse neighborhood cultures,” showcase director Sherry Cook Stanforth said in a press release. “We’re gathering in the spirit of creative expression, intergenerational apprenticeship, and place keeping. The current of our Greater Cincinnati arts scene holds regionally beloved artists as well as rising younger talent.”
Ohio’s Poet Laureate Kari Gunter-Seymour will share a reading among other artists and former Cincinnati Poet Laureate Pauletta Hansel. Proceeds from the event will support affordable or free arts and culture education programs in Cincinnati, according to the release.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Anyone under 18 years old is free. The Appalachian Flow event is on Sept. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Heritage Center of Columbia Tusculum.
