A local historian has penned his third book about one of Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhoods and is hosting a special release party this week.
Jim Steiner, a retired pediatric dentist and Mt. Adams’ official historian, recently published Hill Yes! Historical Vignettes of Mt. Adams, which contains over 50 short stories about the iconic neighborhood’s personalities, special events, churches, saloons and historic buildings — plus cameo appearances by singer-songwriter Janis Joplin and the notorious Charles Manson. The book also features 12 articles by Kathleen Hueneman, who describes her childhood growing up in Mt. Adams during the Great Depression.
“The holidays are coming up, and this book would be a great gift for anyone, but would be especially thoughtful for a Cincinnati history-loving friend,” reads a press release.
Crowley’s Highland House Café in Mt. Adams will host a special book release party on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5-7 p.m. Steiner will also be signing copies in the Highland Towers’ Crown Room on Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 5-7 p.m. He will also take part in a local author book signing event at Joseph-Beth Booksellers on Saturday, March 7 from 1-3 p.m.

The book is hard-covered, with over 180 pages of stories and 225 images, plus an extensive index. It’s $55 and all proceeds will be donated to Pilgrim Chapel, a historic church in Mt. Adams.
This is Steiner’s third book about the history of Mt. Adams. He published his first book, Immaculata on Mount Adams – A 150 Year History, in 2010, followed by Mount Adams: A History in 2020. Both books are out of print, but you can find copies through the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library.
