The 46th annual Ludlow Derby Rat Race was held at the Covington Turner Society on May 2. The raucous, often politically-incorrect event has been a mainstay of the Northern Kentucky area and a fundraiser for the Turner’s Youth Basketball Program. “Participants” (mice with numbers superglued to their bodies) race through a scale model of Ludlow to a piece of cheese at the finish line. Spectators placed real cash bets on mice with names like George Clooney-town, Bradley B.O. Pits and The Last Supper for Frisch’s Big Boy.
According to the event’s program, all participating rats must hail from the Ludlow and Bromley areas of Kentucky, be at least 3 years of age and have the fastest race time in order to be eligible for the grand prize, the Inbreeder’s Cup.
