A new event from local domestic duck rescue Longbottom Bird Ranch is aiming to use rubber ducks to help real ones.

Home to Kiwi, the famous duck artist who was also a nominee for best artist in CityBeat‘s Best of Cincinnati contest, Longbottom Bird Ranch is a “duck retirement community” on the West Side that rescues abandoned domestic ducks and hosts educational events to raise awareness about them.

The rescue is hosting its first-ever Great Rubber Duck Race at Covalt Station in Milford on Saturday, May 20 from noon to 3 p.m. Participants will “adopt” a rubber duck to race in the Red Creek behind the restaurant.

The winners of the race will receive gift baskets containing gift cards to local businesses, duck-themed collectibles and merchandise. Longbottom Bird Ranch will also have some of its rescued duck ambassadors in attendance for visitors to pet and feed. Event t-shirts, stickers and art, created by the ducks, will also be for sale.
