For the 18th year, the man in red is returning to the Newport Aquarium. Floating in an underwater tank surrounded by sharks (but not COVID), Scuba Santa will be listening to the wishes of children behind a wall of aquarium glass.

Donning his holiday gear and oxygen tank, Santa and his elves — and some festive light displays — will be bringing comforting tradition to Tri-State families.

“This year, maybe more than ever, traditions are so important,” said Rebecca Foster, Newport Aquarium’s Director of Guest Experience. “Scuba Santa and the holiday wonder he brings is just what we all need this winter.”

Of course, those outside the tank will need to continue to follow COVID precautions, including social distancing and mask wearing. Venue capacity is limited so an advance ticket or annual passholder reservation is required. (Learn about all the aquarium’s COVID safety regulations at NewportAquarium.com/PlaySafe.)

Scuba Santa lands his aquatic sleigh, presumably pulled by sea horses, at the Newport Aquarium on Nov. 27 and will be available daily through Dec. 24.

The Newport Aquarium is located at Newport on the Levee. Tickets and more info: newportaquarium.com.
