The Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 in extra innings on Saturday,  Ke-Bryan Hayes bobblehead night. It was the second game of the day, and the Reds had lost earlier, 8-1, in the makeup game for Friday’s rain-out. Prior to the evening game, Hayes (currently on the 10-day injured list) was presented with the Rawlings Gold Glove trophy.

Pitcher Chase Petty was brought up from the minors to start the game due to the current starting pitcher’s injuries. Home runs in the 5th inning by Elly De La Cruz and Nathaniel Lowe gave the Reds a 5-1 lead. However, Jordan Walker hit a 3-run homer for the Cardinals in the sixth inning. Reds came back with a run in the bottom half as Spencer Steer scored on a Dane Myers double.

After three scoreless innings from relievers Brock Burke and Graham Ashcraft, Tony Santillan was brought in for the save in the 9th, but gave up two runs, which led to extra innings. Strong pitching by Pierce Johnson and great defensive plays, a tag out at home plate (Lowe to Higgins), and a sliding catch by right fielder Blake Dunn kept the Cardinals scoreless the last two innings. Dunn then won the game by hitting the ball to shortstop, which allowed Spencer Steer at third base to score with a head-first slide into home.
