April 20 — or 4/20 — is the holy high holiday celebrated by marijuana users across America. This vaunted tradition for tokers was reportedly launched in the 1970s by a group of California high school students, according to High Times magazine, and has engrained itself in pop culture with both daily (lighting up at 4:20 p.m. ... or a.m.) and annual observances.
While Ohio has yet to legalize recreational marijuana (it may be on the ballot this November) and the U.S. House passed a bill to federally decriminalize cannabis (it probably won't pass the Senate), the only way to legally enjoy weed in the state is via medical marijuana or delta-8. (delta-8 products contain a legal amount of THC, due to a loophole in a bill about hemp, and still produce that same "high" feeling.)
However you plan to partake this 4/20, these local restaurants are offering special meals and deals aimed at satiating your munchies.
This Corryville sandwich shop specializes in "toasted" subs and is ready for 4/20 every day. But this April 20, they're going big and turning part of Short Vine into a block party with live music (from the likes of Ernie Johnson From Detroit and Animal Crackers), glass blowers, a joint-rolling contest, pothead-friendly vendors, 420 flash tattoos from Beelistic and $4.20 Nugs all day ("Nugs" are 4-inch versions of Cheba Hut sandwiches). Cheba Hut will also be offering "a special interactive grinder to the first 100 people," per a release from the shop. The grinder has a QR code, which people can scan until July 10 to win prizes. The shop also says it will be "hooking up" guests with Willie Nelson's Willie's Reserve rolling papers. The block party runs from 2-9 p.m. April 20. Free admission. 2614 Vine St., Corryville, facebook.com.
