Chocolate lovers will descend on Oxford this January for the return of the Chocolate Meltdown, the ultimate celebration of the delicious treat.
The Chocolate Meltdown will feature a day of fun activities and, of course, plenty of chocolate to indulge in. The event will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, with the main event happening at the Oxford Community Arts Center. Admission is free.
During the Chocolate Meltdown, visitors can also do a chocolate tasting and immerse themselves in a tasty journey sampling creations from over 15 local bakers and chocolatiers. Chocolate-tasting tickets can be purchased online or on-site, with coupons available at $1 each, six for $5 or 12 for $10.
There will also be a Chocolate Bar and Chocolate Shot table, with chocolate-inspired beverages for attendees 21 and older; free interactive chocolate-themed activities for kids and a “Sweet Dreams” art exhibit showcasing some stunningly sweet creations.
New this year, the chocolate-themed festivities will kick off Friday with a brand new Chocolate Crawl. You can collect passport stickers from participating businesses that will be offering chocolate-inspired treats and surprises, no purchase required. The first fully completed passport turned in at the Oxford Community Arts Center on Saturday will win six free tasting tickets.
Also this year, chocolate expert Rob Rollins will host a Chocolate 101 event on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 11 at College@Elm (20 S. Elm St., Oxford). The event will explore the history of chocolate, its production and its feel-good effects. There will also be a guided tasting. The event is $5 and you must pre-book it by Friday, Jan. 10 by emailing artmuseum@miamioh.edu. You can reserve now and pay at the door.
Organizers says 2024’s Chocolate Meltdown brought over 800 visitors Oxford, and they’re expecting this year’s event to be even bigger.
