The building that formerly housed neighborhood bar Highball is being taken over by a nearby retail residency program.
Race Street Collective, a residency program run by local developer Model Group that allows aspiring retailers and restaurateurs to rent out turnkey spaces for pop-ups, has acquired the Highball space at 1834 Race Street near Findlay Market.
Previously, the residency program had the former Goose and Elder space at 1800 Race just a few doors down the street for multi-use development purposes. That space currently hosts the cafe Little Matcha.
“Think of the former Highball space as an extension of RSC, with a little more privacy,” the program said in an Instagram post. “Perfect for groups and businesses, we’re booking our calendar full of all the good stuff from now until the end of September.”
Highball, the vinyl-focused bar ran by Jacob Trevino’s hospitality group Gorilla Cinema Presents, closed at the end of May. Prior to that, it was home to comic book store Cosmic Gorilla until it closed in 2024, also ran by Gorilla Cinema.
