An Oakley restaurant is closing for good after over a decade in business.

Red Feather Kitchen opened in Oakley in 2013 with a menu of contemporary farm-to-table cuisine. On Sunday, the restaurant announced on social media that its last night of service will be Saturday, Dec. 21.

“After an incredible 11 years, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close the doors to such a special place,” owner Brad Bernstein wrote. “During this time, we please ask you to remain kind to the Red Feather Family, as this has been such a hard decision to make.”

Bernstein went on to thank his staff and customers for the support they’ve given the restaurant over the years. And while Bernstein didn’t say why the restaurant was closing in the post, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Red Feather experienced a drop in customers while also experiencing higher operating costs.

Bernstein also owns Dutch’s Larder in Hyde Park, which will stay open.

Red Feather Kitchen’s closure is the latest in a string of local restaurants shutting their doors. Last week, restaurateurs Bill and Morgan Whitlow announced they were closing their Rich’s Proper Food and Drink and Hangry Omar’s Slider Shack in Covington. The same week, former Bengals player Carlos Dunlap also suddenly shuttered his breakfast and brunch concept, Honey, also in Covington, and Terrace Park’s Golden State Tacos announced it would be closing as well. Earlier in December, Taft’s Brewpourium announced it would also close after Cincinnati Beverage Company acquired its brand. And throughout the fall, Greater Cincinnati has lost numerous Frisch’s Big Boy restaurants as the company battled evictions from its landlord, NNN Reit.

Other restaurants have recently admitted they’re struggling too, with BrewRiver Creole Kitchen launching a fundraiser last week to help them keep their doors open.

Red Feather Kitchen is located at 3200 Madison Road in Oakley. Its last night of service is Saturday, Dec. 21. More info: redfeather.com.
