A popular Cincinnati taco truck is putting down brick-and-mortar roots in downtown.

Pata Roja Taqueria, which typically could have been found serving up street tacos behind Bar Saeso in Pendleton, will be setting up shop along the Court Street Plaza at 52 E. Court St. Owner Derrick Braziel and Michael Millay, a former FC Cincinnati team member and the CEO of Rooted Creative, have already started planning the menu and layout of the new restaurant.

The pair say having a brick-and-mortar space will be a welcome addition and allow guests a unique, fun spot to sit and enjoy their tacos. They looked at spaces from Camp Washington to Mt. Washington, ultimately settling on Court Street after watching the area grow into the commercial and dining scene it is today.

“We truly feel our taqueria will thrive here, in a space that is so connected to the community,” Braziel said in a release. “We see Pata Roja as a way to help bridge the gap between the Central Business District and Over-the-Rhine, bringing these two communities together through a shared love of good food and good company.”

“We’re really looking forward to giving this Cincinnati staple a permanent home in the heart of Court Street Plaza,” Lindzie Gunnels, commercial leasing manager with 3CDC, said in the release. “As we continue to see the Court Street Plaza area grow, we can’t think of a better partner than Derrick Braziel – he’s extremely passionate about his work, he’s a great asset to the community, and he’s committed to creating a unique, welcoming spot with Pata Roja.”

Pata Roja is known for its authentic and bold flavors with signature Mexican dishes like taco al pastor, marinated beef taco, seasonal vegetarian taco and fresh salsas. Braziel and Millay say they want the restaurant to have an atmosphere that’s like a traditional Mexico City taqueria, but with a Cincinnati twist. “Pata roja” in Spanish translates to “red leg,” giving the taqueria that local connection, and visitors should expect to see a Cincinnati Reds vibe infused into the space, says the release.
