Queer Soup Night will return to Covington’s Lil’s Bagels on Sunday, Nov. 10. The fundraising event invites the community to enjoy an evening of unlimited soup from four local queer and ally chefs who will each prepare a different recipe. Guests are asked to donate what they can or want to contribute, with proceeds benefitting Safe and Supported, an LGBTQ youth homelessness prevention initiative from local Lighthouse Youth & Family Services.
Featured chefs and soup for Queer Soup Night include Brandon Moore of Fairfield Market, who will prepare a pumpkin beer cheese soup with pretzel croutons; Ybette Inojosa of FreshLo, who will prepare a chupe de pollo; Jay Dickerson of New Riff Distilling, who will prepare an Italian Wedding Soup; and Jordan Tuss of Ladywood, who will prepare a Jamaican rundown stew.
In addition to soup, there will also be bread from OTR’s Allez Bakery; a bar offering wine, beer and spiked cider; and a DJ.
This is the second time Lil’s Bagels’ owner Julia Keister will host the event at her bagel shop.
“At our last Queer Soup Night, all proceeds went to Caracole, and we asked them to pay it forward by choosing the organization for our fall event,” says Keister in an interview. “They chose Safe and Supported and we are excited to raise funds for such an important group.”
Lil’s Bagels’ Queer Soup Night isn’t the first of these inclusive soup parties. The Brooklyn-based event has spread across the nation since it launched two years ago, bringing communities together over food and fundraising.
Queer Soup Night will run from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. All ages are welcome to the event.
