A Walnut Hills coffee lounge and cocktail bar is retiring its cocktail program at the end of the year, says ownership.
King Pigeon opened in the neighborhood in the fall of 2023 with a daytime coffee program and a storytelling-infused beverage program at night, the menu featuring the adventures of the illustrated King Pigeon, who takes customers on a journey through the bar’s seasonal drink offerings. Owner Nick Kallenberg says the business’ name comes from the carrier pigeon, a symbol of communication from a time when messages were sent by bird.
The final night to grab a cocktail will be at the bar’s ticketed New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31. After that, the coffee shop aspect of the business will remain open, with a focus on expanded daytime offerings.
Kallenberg says, despite retiring the cocktail program, King Pigeon will also remain a hub for the community, where people can foster creativity and connection over drinks.
“As a third place, we’ve always been focused on what the community needs,” Kallenberg said in a press release. “Over the past two years, we’ve come to realize the cafe side of the business is where we are able to provide the most value to our guests and community.”
Through Dec. 30, King Pigeon will be open for coffee Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be open for cocktails from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday, 5-11 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
King Pigeon says it will share more details on its New Year’s Eve party on its Instagram page in the near future.
