As we approach the fade out at the end of the song that was 2016, this week’s CityBeat takes a look back at what we saw, heard, tasted and thought about over the past year. For music, the Year in Review issue gives us a chance to look back at the recordings that caught our attention over the past 365 days (or rather 362 days, since the issue came out on Dec. 28).
In our “The Year in Local Recordings” rundown, you can see snippets from our reviews and features about area artists and the recorded material they crafted for us in 2016, as well as a list of other releases we heard and enjoyed. And for the first time, if you’re unfamiliar with an act, this year you can hear for yourself what we were listening to and writing about.
Click below to peruse 86 tracks from just some of the local recording efforts of 2016. Jump around and explore — you’re bound to find something new that you like. And if you do, be sure to support the groups and solo acts by going to see them perform, joining their social media followings and seeking out the full releases. With this playlist, you can be taken to the whole albums or EPs instantly with any track posted from a Bandcamp site (which is most of them) by clicking the icon to the right of the song title; the other sources (Soundcloud and YouTube) for the most part have direct links for more info.
Cheers to an excellent 2016 for Cincinnati area music. We’re looking forward to another great one in 2017.
