The one-man-basement/bedroom-band project has become a contemporary Pop staple of late and one of the sub-genre’s highest profile acts over the past decade has been Jordan Mark Witzigreuter’s energetic Synth Pop contribution, The Ready Set.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native conceived The Ready Set in 2007 and self-released his 2008 debut EP, Syntax and Bright Lights, when he was just 19 years old. In 2009, Witzigreuter followed up with Tantrum Castle, his first full-length album, and Cascades, his sophomore EP, all of which attracted the attention of Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, who signed The Ready Set to his Decaydance label that same year. With intuitive tour choices and a savvy internet marketing approach, Witzigreuter had already established a healthy fan base but Wentz’s name recognition and Decaydance’s distribution deal with Sire Records assured that The Ready Set’s 2010 major label debut, I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming, would expose him to a much broader audience. The album debuted in Billboard Heatseekers’ Top 5 and the subsequent single, “Love Like Woe,” notched more than a million in digital sales.

The Ready Set’s last EP, 2011’s Feel Good Now, actually cracked Billboard’s Top 200, largely due to the single “Young Forever,” and Witzigreuter is clearly working on material for a follow-up while possibly lobbying for a girlfriend. At the end of January, The Ready Set posted “For the Better,” a bouncy new digital single sympathetically dedicated to Taylor Swift and her less-than-lucky love life wherein Witzigreuter assures her that “You’re rich and your songs don’t suck” and “There’s 100 others waiting in line.”

Witzigreuter may just have moved to the front of that queue. Ready? Set? Go!

THE READY SET performs Tuesday, March 19 with Outasight, Master Shorties and BoyMeetsWorld at Madison Theater in Covington. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
