71 Gallery’s Tony Dotson regards Kentucky artist Bruce New as “the king of us,” referring to outsider/folk artists. He was just featured on the cover of Raw Vision, the international journal considered the bible of the genre.
Now he has his first Cincinnati show, which is only the second exhibit at Dotson’s recently opened space on Short Vine. That’s quite the coup. New calls his collages “an attempt to leave a visual record of my thoughts, ideas, and fantasies. … On a mountaintop, right next to the sun, I create my artwork high on butterfly wine.”
