If you're in the Who Dey spirit, join former Bengals stars Anthony Muñoz, Jim Breech, David Fulcher, Solomon Wilcots, Robert Jackson and David Wilkins and the Northern Kentucky Health Department for a special sports-meets-shots vaccination event.

From 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 16, NKY Health, in concert with the CDC and NFL Alumni Health, will be giving out free COVID vaccinations to those 12 and older in the Holmes High School Fieldhouse/Gym (2500 Madison Ave., Covington).

Those who attend can not only receive all three vaccines — the Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson — but those who qualify can also get a booster dose of Pfizer. And if you start the two-dose vaccine on Oct. 16, you can schedule your second shot at this event.

In addition to vaccinations, there will also be food, music, giveaways and photo ops and autographs with the aforementioned former Bengals.

“When the NFL and CDC asked us to host the event, we were thrilled to do so,” said Steve Divine, interim Director of Health and Director of Environmental Health and Safety at NKY Health, in a release. “Getting vaccinated is essential for protecting both your individual health and that of those around you, as well as helping us all get back to a ‘normal’ life — especially with the Delta variant. Hopefully, this event will help both those who have had trouble getting access as well as those who need a little extra push in making up their mind to get a shot.”

Divine says Northern Kentucky is still behind its goal vaccination rate, especially in younger folks. NKY Health says that about 70% of the "entire eligible population" has started their vaccination process, while only 50% of those between 12 and 40 years old have gotten at least one shot.

Covington has a goal of 100% vaccination (for those who can receive the shot).

“The pandemic has been hard on us all,” Covington Mayor Joe Meyer said in the same release. “In Covington, we have neither the time nor the inclination for controversy and debate. We just want our people healthy and safe, our kids in school, everybody back to work, shoppers in our stores, people eating and drinking in our restaurants and bars, and people comfortable interacting with each other without fear of spreading this disease. I strongly encourage everybody who isn’t vaccinated to show up Oct. 16.”
